7-28-24 Last week we saw a video predicting when all the MLB stadiums will be demolished. Obviously many stadiums have been demolished over the years. 8-11-24 We all know that Abner Doubleday invented baseball. That is the commonly accepted fact. Or is it? Was it just a great PR job to get Doubleday the acknowlegment. There is a lot of evidence that he did not invent baseball. He just took credit for it. That was pretty common in the 1800's. Take someone elses idea and talk it up that it was yours. 8-18-24 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig revolutioned baseball in the 1920's. During this time equipment changed, mainly the baseball and home runs became relevant. There was still a lot of old school baseball though. Guys played everyday. We all know Gehrig did not take a day off for 14 years only to be surpassed by Cal Ripken 75 years later. Gehrig's streak ended due to a fatal disease, the common name for the disease ended up with Gehrig's name, Lou Gehrig's disease. While in the Mayo Clinic for treatment he gave a radio interview. 8-25-24 Last week we heard a recording of an interview with Lou Gehrig. I love old school baseball. There is a simplicity and wholesomeness to it. I'm a fan of history and old school baseball is history. I found a long lost film of a portion of an old Red Sox vs Yankee game featuring both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. 9-1-24 There are some real characters who announce or broadcast baseball games. I think the speed of the game allows announcers to really stand out. They know how to fill the slow periods in an entertaining way. Vince Scully, Harry Carey, Ken Harrelson are a few that come to mind. Perhaps the greatest entertainer of them all is Bob Uecker. He rode is success in the booth to guess spots on television, TV commercials and movie roles. Who can forget his performance in the movie "Major Leagues".
