2-18-24 Pitchers are throwing faster and faster each year. Today's philosphy is throw as hard as you can as long as you can then someone will relieve you. Pitchers don't hold anything back any more. Fastball speed rules. It is common for a team to have multiple guys who can throw 100 mph. Just 10 or 12 years ago a guy with a 100 mph fastball was rare. 2-25-24 Major League Baseball's rule changes has really revived the speed game in baseball. It has lessened some of the one dimensional power game that had developed. Earl Weaver may not like the stolen base and speed but it has been part of the game since the beginning. And speed just doesn't mean stolen bases. It affects all the baserunning plays. 3-3-24 Since we all play Strat-O-Matic we all know about odds; well maybe all of us but Roland. Baseball had statistics everywhere. Managers make moves based on stats. Many would say that stats are becoming too big in baseball. But what about long shots. No hitters are rare. Perfect games even rarer. Rare events are not only game related. They happen during plays too. Balls bouncing off guys heads for home runs come to mind. I found this video featuring "Rarest Baseball Odds".
3-10-24 We have all probably saw the Dos Equis beer commerical about the most interesting man in the world. That series of commericals ran for a long time and won several advertising awards. That of course was just some ad hype featuring actor Jonathan Goldsmith. Who would fill that spot in baseball. Check out this video for one persons opinion, "The Most Interesting Man In Baseball".
3-17-24 In my opinion the Baseball Hall of Fame is the top sports Hall of Fame. The other sports seem to dilute the true stars. They just let too many guys in. You really have to earn your way in the Baseball Hall of Fame. I found a nice series of videos about "connections" to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
